The President's Table
A message from LSI President and CEO, Pastor Doug JohnsonDoug Johnson, LSI President and CEO

A little over one year ago natural disasters struck Iowa, causing physical and emotional damage in the lives of thousands. As the media remembers this time in Iowa history, much of the focus has been directed at the larger cities that were devastated. However, the smaller communities in the state have been equally affected by this historic time.

Thinking about these smaller communities led me to reflect on the people we at LSI assist every day with our services. They are often not given the same attention as some of the "larger issues" in our state. But because of events like the disasters and the troubled economy, the number of those who need social services continues to grow. That is why our shared mission of "responding to the love of Jesus Christ though acts of service to all" is so important now.

Without the services provided by LSI and other agencies, and the support we all find in our communities and congregations, many children, families and individuals may not have anywhere else to turn. It’s your voice that helps bring their struggles to the attention of people who have the resources and compassion to help. Through our advocacy and support, we can help everyone understand the social and human issues that affect tens of thousands of people in Iowa.

As we remember the devastation that took place in our state a year ago, please remember all communities affected and their losses. I also ask that you continue to remember in prayer all of your neighbors who struggle through difficult times searching for healing and hoping for a brighter future. It is only by making sure all of our brothers and sisters in Christ are cared for that we can truly create healthy communities.

In Christ,

Pastor Doug Johnson
President and CEO
