LSI awarded grant for ambassador program from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
Waverly, Iowa - Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) was awarded a $3,000 grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to benefit LSI’s Building Relationships project. The goal of the project is to link congregations to the life-changing services of LSI through ambassadors. A nationally accredited agency, LSI is one of Iowa's largest social service agencies.
Ambassadors play a large role in connecting LSI with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and its Iowa congregations to impact the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans every year. Ambassadors are volunteers who share in fulfilling the mission of LSI and make a difference in the lives of children, families and senior adults in need.
The Building Relationships project kicked off on Oct. 6 with training for ambassadors from around the state offered via video-conference. The event provided ambassadors with education about their role as ambassadors for LSI in their communities and new tools and materials for them to help connect their congregation members to LSI.
“The Thrivent grant for Building Relationships is helping to re-energize our ambassador program,” said Dave Assmus, LSI's director of church relations. “LSI will now have the resources to more readily share information with more than 220 ambassadors who are currently working with LSI across the state.”
The grant specifically assisted in providing training and other materials essential to the education and recruitment of LSI ambassadors. The grant will help LSI work with ambassadors throughout the year as they apply what they have learned during the October event in their own communities.
LSI impacts the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans annually through residential treatment, services to families, home health care, early childhood programs, adoption/foster care services, refugee resettlement, services for people with disabilities, disaster response initiatives and Barnabas Uplift. LSI serves people of all ages, genders, nationalities, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations and is affiliated with Lutheran Services in America and three Iowa synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
