LSI's early childhood expertise earns state contract

Des Moines – Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) will coordinate Iowa’s Family Support and Technical Assistance Network as part of a new initiative designed to help Iowa’s family support programs achieve state accreditation. LSI was selected as part of a competitive bidding process for the Department of Management contract, funded through state Empowerment.

Family support programs include an array of community-based services that empower and strengthen families. With support often provided through home visits, these programs can partner with families to prevent child abuse, promote school readiness and increase parent involvement. Family support programs are vital in preparing children for school and for life.

Any Iowa family support program can apply to earn the Iowa Family Support Credential. LSI’s role will involve providing technical assistance to programs as they prepare for a peer review process. The Iowa Family Support Credential is awarded to programs who meet high standards for best practice and quality.

“Family support programs play a critical role in preventing child abuse and helping build healthier families,” said Nancy Krause, LSI’s director of early childhood services. “As LSI, we’re excited to be part of Iowa’s continued investment in early childhood and helping make sure Iowa’s children and families have access to high quality programs.”

Investing in family support programs helps families and children succeed early on and can prevent later involvement in the child welfare or juvenile justice system, Krause added.

As a statewide leader in early childhood and family services, LSI’s reputation and experience in over 80 Iowa counties helped secure this competitive contract. LSI is one of Iowa’s largest social service agencies and is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).

LSI impacts the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans annually through residential treatment, services to families, home health care, early childhood programs, adoption/foster care services, refugee resettlement, services for people with disabilities, disaster response initiatives and Barnabas Uplift. LSI serves people of all ages, genders, nationalities, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations and is affiliated with Lutheran Services in America and three Iowa synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
