LSI's HOPES program in Louisa County receives grant
Columbus Junction, Iowa – A $500 grant from the Community Foundation of Louisa County to Lutheran Services in Iowa’s (LSI) HOPES program will help provide assistance to local children and families.
LSI’s HOPES (Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success) is an early childhood parenting program that provides ongoing voluntary in-home visits that can start prenatally and continue to age three or four.
“Our ultimate goal is to promote positive parenting and improve child health and development, which in turn can prevent child abuse and neglect,” said Jill Hoben, LSI service coordinator. “Family support is critical to ensure a successful start with the birth of a baby.”
The grant will help families in the program with basic needs assistance. Families will receive help with items they might not otherwise be able to afford, such as purchasing safety gates, outlet covers, smoke alarms, car seats, or with needs such as transportation to health appointments. The program serves approximately 20 families in Louisa County.
LSI impacts the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans annually through residential treatment, services to families, home health care, early childhood programs, adoption/foster care services, refugee resettlement, services for people with disabilities, disaster response initiatives and Barnabas Uplift.
