Career Pathways

Immigrant and Refugee Community Services

One of the major struggles former refugees face in the U.S. is finding and maintaining employment. LSI has partnered with other organizations and companies to offer contextualized training courses for the healthcare industry.

The courses not only help refugees improve their English communication skills, but they provide specific training for jobs in this industry. A navigator provides support outside of the classroom to help refugees overcome barriers to employment (childcare, transportation, etc.) and provides guidance in applying and interviewing for jobs.

Program Partially Funded by United Way of Central Iowa

Participants must have arrived through the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program, with priority given to those who have been in the U.S. for less than 5 years.

This program may have a waitlist for participants who have been in the U.S. for more than 5 years.
