Foster Care and Adoption
LSI is proud to offer service and support to Iowa’s foster and adoptive families. We believe the compassionate people who welcome children into their homes and help them find safe, stable outcomes are Iowa’s true heroes.
LSI recruits, retains, trains, and supports foster and adoptive parents. We partner with the Iowa Department of Human Services to ensure children in foster care have safe, stable, healthy homes. Our goal is to create permanent connections between children and families through foster care, adoption, and birth parent reunification.
LSI works with parents who welcome children from foster care and who adopt children from foster care. We do not handle private adoptions.

URGENT NEED: Iowa has an urgent need for more foster families, especially those who open their hearts and homes to teenagers, sibling groups, and children with special needs. We also strive to connect children coming into care with families who reflect their culture and language needs. Iowa is in urgent need for African American, Latino, and Native American foster parents. We also seek families who provide safe, loving homes to LGBTQ youth.

LSI has a rich legacy of providing services and support to foster and adoptive families in Iowa. LSI was born more than 150 years ago as a home for children left parent-less by the Civil War. We have offered compassionate care to children and families ever since then. Our menu of service has grown as the needs of our Iowa neighbors have changed. We are privileged to walk alongside Iowa families.
