Support and Education

Thanks to the generosity of our funders, many programs are low cost or free for families. We also typically provide child care at our on-site programs, so parents can focus while children learn and play through structured, developmental activities.

We provide programming on a range of topics:

  • Child development
  • Parenting strategies
  • Health and nutrition
  • Positive discipline
  • Special needs
  • Early literacy
  • Communication
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Stress and grief
  • Behaviors

For more information about available programs, call 515.233.1677 or email us.

ABC Group

Our ABC (After Baby Comes) group meets regularly during the week. Designed for parents of infants to preschoolers, this group features occasional presenters on age-appropriate topics.

The ABC Group meets Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30 with occasional presenters.

Call 515.233.1677 for more information and to register.

Nurturing Parent Group

Parents of children age 0-5 participate in discussions about topics such as nutrition, play, social skills, stress management and child development.

Please call 515.233.1677 for more information or to register for fall group.

Home Visitation

Our Parents as Teachers program is an in-home visitation program that helps strengthen families. A parent educator can visit you in your home to provide information, links to resources, help you track your child’s health and development and help you plan for your family’s future.

Drop-In Days and Library

Sometimes parents just need a break. On drop-in days, we provide child care while families can pay bills, make phone calls, network or meet other parents. It’s also a great time to visit our library with its wide selection of children’s literature, parenting resources and videos.

Drop-In Days are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from  9:30-11:30 am. Call us at 515.233.1677 if you have questions.

Community Outreach

People Place offers on-site education and support. If your group would like our trained staff to collaborate with you on bringing additional programming to other sites in Story County, please contact us to see how we could partner with you. Call 515.233.1677.
