Exploring Sensory and Motor Needs

Many children from hard places have challenges meeting their sensory and motor needs. Unmet sensory and motor needs can present as negative behaviors that interrupt other areas of life. Often this is an unexplored area for caregivers. Our instructor will guide us in understanding a holistic approach to identifying and helping meet various sensory and motor needs. She will help caregivers understand that meeting foundational needs first will lead to greater resources for learning. She will teach caregivers how to use observations to identify children’s needs and how to manage sensory input in an organized manner for your child. Caregivers will consider their child’s sensory-seeking behaviors and evaluate new option if needed, understanding that some self-soothing behavior is difficult to replace.
