Caring for Self While Helping Others

What is compassion fatigue? Who does it affect? Why should you care? How do you deal with it? This workshop will answer these questions and build skills in the participant to identify, consider, and manage symptoms of compassion fatigue. Participants learn in an experiential environment that provides opportunity for reflection and analysis of their own symptoms of compassion fatigue through use of the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQol), which measures compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress related to their professional life.

Participants will learn:

  • Definitions of compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction
  • Strategies that buffer against the symptoms of compassion fatigue
  • Organizational and individual strategies that promote resilience in the workforce
  • To examine and gauge their own levels of burnout, compassion fatigue, and compassion satisfaction
