Instructor: Kersten Borer, M.S.W

She completed her Masters in Social Work in 1999 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and currently holds professional licenses as an independent mental health practitioner, Master’s level social worker, and an alcohol and drug counselor in the State of Nebraska. She provides outpatient substance abuse treatment (ASAM Level I) to adolescents and adults. She also offers urinalysis drug and alcohol testing. She is on the approved provider list to complete chemical dependency evaluations in the State of Nebraska. She also sees many friends and family members of persons with addictions. Many people want guidance of how to help those with addictions as well as how to take care of themselves in the process. Therefore, she sees many couples, where one partner has a history of addiction. She has extensive history seeing adolescents with behavioral disorders. She works with the adolescent and parent on improving their communication and helping to provide realistic expectations in the home. She sees adults and adolescents with mild to severe mental health disorders and believes in a strengths-based approach. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has found success in using this to treat people who have a history of trauma and/or anxiety disorders.
