To teach a child how to recognize and deal with feelings in appropriate and effective ways is a way of safeguarding that child’s physical and mental health. This is in addition to helping the child “fit in” in a society that expects people to be aware of their feelings and in proper control of their emotions, instead of allowing emotions to control them.
