LSI Respite Care provides caregivers with time for a much-needed break, while empowering children and adults with disabilities.

These services are funded by Medicaid. All eligible individuals must have Medicaid and one of the following waivers:

Whether families choose a deemed or established provider, safety and quality are our priorities. LSI provides oversight, paid training, and support for all respite providers. We ensure respite is provided in a safe and nurturing environment by completing additional background checks and home surveys for providers who offer care from their own home.

We’ll work with your family to connect you with a respite provider that is the perfect fit for you, so you can take a much-needed break while feeling confident that your loved one is receiving high-quality care. LSI can provide respite care for up to 48 hours at a time. Please note that we do not provide emergency services.
These service payments won’t come out of your family’s pocket, and LSI Respite Care is available for families with Medicaid and one of the following waivers:

Where do I start?
To get set up with LSI Respite Care, please contact your family case manager and have them refer you to LSI. If you are unsure of who your case manager is, your doctor, psychologist, or legal representative will be able to assist you.

Become a Deemed Respite Provider!
We will work with a family to hire a “deemed respite provider” of their choosing. Here are some ideas of who might make a great deemed provider:
– A teacher connected with a child
– Teacher aides, paraeducators, or other school personnel connected with a child
– A Sunday school teacher or church group leader connected with an individual
– Nurses, doctors, or other medical professionals connected with an individual
– Family friends or neighbors
– Coaches, Girl Scout or Boy Scout leaders, or other community leaders
– Mentors or tutors connected with an individual

What does LSI Respite Care look like?
LSI provides individual and group respite care for Iowans of all ages. We offer the flexibility of Consumer Choice Options with the added comfort and security of having the oversight of an agency. We’ll take care of the paperwork so families can be stress-free! We work with families and providers to build a schedule that works for them, and we wrap care around families by collaborating with other services they use. LSI can provide respite care for up to 48 hours at a time. Please note that we do not provide emergency services.
