Services for Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolees

Immigrant and Refugee Community Services

Through a new 90-day program from the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement, Ukrainians who were granted humanitarian parole (UPH) upon entry to the United States after February 24, 2022 are eligible for services and assistance through organizations like Lutheran Services in Iowa.

We can connect Ukrainians to

LSI Services including:

  • Initial assessment of needs and home visit 
  • Emergency housing support (if necessary)  
  • Work authorization application support (EAD)  
  • Public benefits assistance – Food stamps, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. 
  • Medical screening and appointment coordination 
  • School enrollment 
  • Employment Program referrals 
  • Cultural orientation  
  • Mental health support and referrals  
  • Legal assistance referrals 

LSI also coordinates the following services

for qualified candidates:

  • Extended case management  
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes 
  • Employment services 
  • Connections with food pantries  
  • Senior Farmer’s’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)  
  • Garden plots for summer fresh produce  
  • Supplemental nutrition programs for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) 
  • Match and Save – a program to help buy a car or other investment 
  • Public transportation training/education 
  • Child Care provider training

    Walk-ins are also available in case of emergency. An interpreter is typically available in person.

    LSI’s Ukrainian support staff are located in Des Moines, but they are able to travel or provide services remotely via phone or Zoom.
