Bremwood

Residential Treatment

Program Update

4/16/2024: After several discussions and careful deliberations with officials at the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), LSI has decided to transition out of residential services programming. Staff at LSI are working with HHS to transition the young women currently placed at the Bremwood Campus in Waverly to other residential facilities across the state over the next 30 days.

The Bremwood campus is NOT closing.  At this time, LSI will still have employees at Bremwood and will continue to provide other critical services for youth and families.

Campus Life

We want youth on Bremwood’s campus to have fun in a safe way! Residents will enjoy the outdoors, take field trips, watch movies, and learn new hobbies.

Treatment

During a youth’s stay at Bremwood, they will have access to quality mental health services.

Therapy

Youth at Bremwood participate in one-on-one therapy sessions with counselors, group sessions with other youth and staff, and therapy sessions with family members. They also participate in “milieu” therapy, where residents live in communities together to learn skills like communication and conflict resolution.

Behavioral Health Intervention Services

LSI’s Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) are available for youth at Bremwood. This service includes regular sessions with a BHIS caseworker, where a resident develops coping skills like anger management, healthy decision-making, and problem solving.

Nurses

Bremwood has a full-time nurse on campus to schedule medical appointments. Our nurse also monitors medication, handles any emergency situations, and stays in close contact with parents or guardians about a resident’s medical needs.

Trauma-Informed Care

All of us have experiences, both positive and negative, that can affect how we relate to the world around us. That’s why Bremwood offers a Trauma-Sensitive Care (TSC) environment. We focus on helping youth feel safe while they learn to identify their emotions, and how to communicate those to others.

Family Engagement

  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay in touch with their child as much as possible. Youth can visit home, and families can schedule regular visits to campus.
  • Phone calls, letters, and postcards are always welcome, and we strongly encourage parents and guardians to participate in our regular family therapy sessions.

Academics

Many Bremwood residents go to school in the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District. The Lied Education Center is also located on campus and features 12 classrooms, where teachers have the capacity to work with each student’s unique behavioral or emotional needs.

The Greenview Alternative High School is operated on Bremwood’s campus by the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District to provide individually paced programs for youth who thrive in this setting.

Nondiscrimination Statement

Meet Amber, Bremwood’s Residential Manager

Every person deserves to become the best possible version of themselves. At LSI, we lift up hundreds of people each day as they work toward this goal. It’s what inspires me to come to work each day.

I’ve been a part of the LSI family for the past six years, most recently as a Statewide Manager with LSI’s Services for People with Disabilities team. In 2018, I transitioned into the role of Residential Manager at the Bremwood Residential Treatment Center in Waverly, where we are privileged to serve hundreds of Iowa children and teens each year.

At Bremwood, there is nothing our team loves more than empowering a child to find the tools they need to thrive. I am inspired by their growth, and I am humbled to be a small piece of their journey.
