Research and clinical data have demonstrated that eating disorders — primarily bulimia and binge eating — often co-occur with an ADHD diagnosis. This webinar will provide an in-depth look at the clinical features of various eating disorders and body image problems. Learning about the neurobiological, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional factors that predispose those with ADHD to develop eating disorders is the first step in treating them. The good news is that adults and children with ADHD can overcome the ADHD-specific obstacles that often prevent a person from moving beyond eating challenges. In this webinar, you will learn about:
- The clinical features and symptoms of eating disorders —namely Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, Orthorexia, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
- The ADHD-specific factors that can predispose people to develop eating disorders
- The best treatment strategies for meeting the challenges of a co-occurring eating disorder
Instructor: Roberto Olivardia, Ph.D., is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Lexington, Mass., where he specializes in the treatment of ADHD, executive functioning issues, and issues that face students with learning differences. He also specializes in the treatment of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and in the treatment of eating disorders in boys and men. He is co-author of “The Adonis Complex,” a book which details the various manifestations of body image problems in men. He is a member of the International OCD Foundation, International Dyslexia Association, Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association, and the American Association of Suicidology.
